You Belong Outdoors is hosting its first event in Nevada County!
About us:
We've seen firsthand how powerful nature can be in helping people grow, heal, connect, and find belonging. But, as queer and trans people, we have experienced, and continue to face challenges regarding safety, acceptance, and belonging in these spaces. These barriers often result in underrepresentation, discrimination, limited access to opportunities, and overall negative experiences.
We are a small queer-owned, grassroots organization that offers FREE beginner-friendly, nature-based programs to queer and marginalized communities. We just moved from Orange County, CA and now serve Nevada County, CA (primarily Nevada City & Grass Valley areas).
By creating spaces where queer individuals can genuinely connect with nature and to others, we contribute to so much more than the sense of belonging; we are improving mental health, lowering suicide risk, building community and fostering resiliency among our most vulnerable populations.
Event Details:
Join us for a free event on Saturday, July 18th where 2SLGBTQIA+ outdoor enthusiasts of all levels can connect, share, learn, and "shop" together. Bring any gently used outdoor gear or apparel you’d like to swap or just come browse and take what you need. Alongside the swap there will be ongoing opportunities to practice setting up/taking down various styles and sizes of tents and learning about campfire building & safety.
**This is an all ages, sober event**
*At 12:30 we are facilitating an Introduction To the Outdoors Workshop and community conversation that covers topics such as:
- Know Before You Go: Plan & Prepare your mind, body, and supplies
- Camping 101
- Hiking Essentials
- Leave No Trace & Environmental Stewardship Principles
Accessibility: ADA access on paved and compacted dirt paths. ADA restrooms & all gender restrooms are port-a-potties (cleaned) with handwashing stations. ASL interpretation available by request!
